Carroll Ashmore Campbell Marine Complex

The project, originally known as the Sampit River Park Boat Landing project, began in 1998 when a Georgetown County Boat Ramp Steering Committee identified the need for a new boat access facility on county waterways. They concluded that the County desperately lacked adequate water access for boaters.

The committee observed that Georgetown County is a sportsman's paradise possessing extraordinary fishing and hunting opportunities. They cited the fact that sport fishing is big business generating over $1 billion annually. Tournament fishing has major economic significance to host communities with spin-off economic gain provided by demand for lodging, food, fuel and other consumables. Georgetown County is noted as an ideal location for a major tournament facility due to the county's unique geographic location in that it is conceivable that both fresh and saltwater tournaments may be hosted from the same facility. Consequently, the committee recommended that the County pursue acquisition of a 19.83 acre parcel on the Sampit River for this purpose.

- Georgetown County has received tremendous support for development and acquisition of the Sampit River Park Boat Landing site from county, state and city government, from the Freshwater Fisheries Coalition, Winyah Bassmaster, Tidewater Bassmasters, Sampit Bassmasters, the Georgetown Sport Fishing Club and the Five Rivers Coalition.

- The Sampit River Park Landing site is designed to accommodate 200 car/trailer parking spaces, access and turnaround area, six landing lanes, a weighing and events area, an activity control facility, floating dock and visitor car parking.

- Total construction cost of the Sampit River Park Boat Landing project is $5,862,463. Funding for the project is provided through a combination of Federal Land & Water Conservation Fund, State, City , Local and County Sources.
