Capital Improvement Plan
The Strategic Planning Process...
Today Georgetown County is in the process of updating the County's comprehensive stratefic plan which was developed by scores of Georgetown County citizens working in concert with County Council and Staff.
Visions I, the original strategic planning process was initiated in Georgetown County in 1998. The original Visions undertaking involved over 250 volunteer citizens from around the county, working over a period of several years to develop a strategic plan for the county. Since this was the first real strategic planning process utilized by the county, Visions I focused on a variety of very basic needs throughout the county. This citizen-generated plan was ultimately adopted by County Council and resulted in more than 38 million dollars worth of county-wide projects. To date all significant projects included in Visions I have either been completed or have been funded and are currently in progress.
In 2004 the next phase of Georgetown County's strategic plan. For this phase, designed to identify and address needs over the next 30 years, over 350 citizens committed to work together on five committees studying Community Enhancement, Transportation, Economic Development, Recreation & Leisure Services, and Facilities. Projects identified, studied, and prioritized include over 300 million dollars in major enhancements that, when complete, will improve the quality of life for the citizens of Georgetown County for generations to come.
County Council worked alongside the various citizen committees throughout the Visions processes. County has now received and accepted the results of this work and the work has been incorporated into a comprehensive Capital Improvement Plan for Georgetown County.
As of July 2007 County Council has commissioned a master plan for Recreation & Community Enhancement and is negotiating a contract for development of a Transportation plan. Council is also in the process of final prioritization and identification of funding for the first round of Visions II projects.
