New Terminal:
Our new 8,500 square foot terminal opened in January 2009, at the Georgetown County Airport. The new terminal design is based on the "low country" style" consisting of two main floors. Included in the floor plans are an FBO operations area, offices, and meeting rooms open to the traveling public and civic groups from the Georgetown County area. There is also an elevator for handicapped access to the upper level. Additionally, space is available for other vendors such as rental car agents and/or a gift shop. The design also includes ample room for the Georgetown County Airport Commission’s scheduled monthly meetings. There are flight planning and rest areas for pilots spending several hours waiting for passengers. The funding for the project was provided by the FAA and the South Carolina Aeronautics Commission and Georgetown County.
Runway Expansion:
Contained within the improvement plans of the Georgetown County airport were the plans for an extension of runways 5-23. The construction of the additional 1000’ of Runway is now completed and is in service. This extension allows the airport to service even the most modern business aircraft. Federal Grant Money was secured for this project, along with funds from the South Carolina Aeronautics Commission and Georgetown County.
Corporate Hangar:
Because of the increase in Jet traffic and larger general aviation aircraft, Georgetown County solicited several companies to provide proposals for a design build corporate hangar. The hangar has become a reality and is ready for service. The Hangar was designed to provide space for 5 larger corporate aircraft and measures 100’ X 120’. The Schweiss Bi-Fold door allows for a 90’ opening with a 26’ height for clearance of larger aircraft. The funding for this project was provided by Georgetown County with assistance for apron and taxiway paving from the South Carolina Aeronautics Commission.
Airport Security Fencing:
Fencing of the Georgetown County Airport has been bid out and construction is scheduled to begin in late summer or early fall. The fencing will allow for enhanced security as well as an avenue to keep wild game from wondering onto the runways and taxiways of the airport. There will be approximately 27,500 linear feet of fence installed and it will take about eight months to complete the project. Funding for this project is being made available through Federal Grants as well as from Georgetown County.
Aircraft Parking Expansion:
An additional aircraft parking area has also been placed out for bid. The apron is to be extended on the southwest side of the present ramp allowing for parking of three to five aircraft with tie downs. The project is scheduled to commence in the late summer or early fall. Monies for this project are being provided by a Federal Grant and Georgetown County.
Vehicle Parking Expansion:
With the increase of aircraft traffic at the Georgetown County Airport, there has been an increase in the need for additional paved vehicle parking. The lot on the South side of the Mosquito Control offices was previously prepared and graded to be paved at a future date. The paving of this lot has now been bid out, with an expected start date in the late summer or early fall. This lot will provide much needed long term parking for the airport and its customers. |
