Community Partnerships

Georgetown County government welcomes opportunities for partnerships with individuals, civic groups and other organizations on endeavors that benefit the community. Such projects can range from public awareness campaigns to educational programs to building projects.

These projects are completed by a volunteer or volunteers with the county’s support and provide some type of service to the public. In the past, a number of such endeavors have been completed as Eagle Scout projects.

Examples of projects completed in the past include:

  • A 2012 project undertaken by Bobby Walters, a member of Boy Scout Troop 360 in Pawleys Island, placed color-coded reflective bands on stop signs to help members of the public determine which hurricane evacuation zone they reside in. He coordinated with Georgetown County’s Public Services department and the S.C. Department of Transportation for the project. The effort resulted in county residents being better prepared for an evacuation.
  • A 2011 Eagle Scout project by Austin Meares of Boy Scout Troop 360 in Pawleys Island created a display for a piece of steel from the remains of the Twin Towers. That piece of history was given to Midway Fire Rescue just before the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Meares raised $9,000 for the display in a month. The display is in front of Midway and was unveiled during at Sept. 11 memorial ceremony on Sept. 11, 2011.
