Job Function:
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Under general supervision performs assessments and appraisals of real property located within Georgetown County. Identifies, inspects, measures, reviews, values and reviews all property within Georgetown County for ad valorem taxation purposes. Reports to the County Assessor.
Job Requirements:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Performs routine assessment duties in the appraisal of real property which includes such activities as listing and valuing property, noting topography of land, personal inspection of property, noting flood areas and locating utility lines, etc.
• Assists the public providing explanations of appraisals and valuation accepts forms for property valuation appeals and reviews other documents presented by taxpayers or their representatives.
•Classifies real property within Georgetown County preparing appropriate property and agriculture records clarifies use of property and prepares accurate records for data entry.
• Verifies and analyzes sales to determine market values for reassessment purposes.
• Receives and/or prepares an assortment of forms and documents such as plats, deeds, building permits, real estate value forms, property tax breakdowns, real estate return forms, etc.
• Interacts with numerous groups and individuals involved in the operations of the department including taxpayers, attorneys and paralegals, S. C. Tax Commission, private appraisers, financial institutions, civil engineers, government and utility departments, realtors, co-workers, etc.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Training:
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Real Estate or related field and one to two years experience in real estate appraisal, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities, required. Experience in public relations and government tax assessment and equalization strongly preferred. Must possess a valid SC Appraisal License as well as a valid SC driver’s license.
