GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES


Under general supervision, the Area Crew Chief operates and maintains a variety of equipment used for construction and maintenance of County roads and drainage systems. This individual will provide assistance, guidance, and supervision as required to less experienced personnel. Must be able to supervise the work and be responsible for quality and accuracy of work in the absence of crew chief.

The applicant must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including motor grader, tractor, backhoe, dump truck, bush hog, bulldozer. This position will be required to operate a vacuum truck, load/transport heavy equipment and construction materials, read and interpret construction drawings, sketches and estimates, and give/receive verbal instructions. The applicant must able to use a level instrument and other survey equipment and able to read and set grades. Performs related duties including preventive maintenance, hauling, clearing right-of-way and general skilled labor. This position is required to conduct minor equipment repairs as necessary to keep equipment in optimum and safe working condition such as but not limited to: cleaning/greasing equipment, check oil, transmission &#64258 uid, hydraulic &#64258 uid, inspecting hoses, replacing parts, etc.
Job Requirements:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The ideal candidate must be able to work independently and as a team member. The individual should possess a strong ability to communicate both verbally and in writing. A customer service oriented attitude with excellent time management skills are essential. A safety first mindset and ability to follow safe work practices and procedures is a must. The candidate must be flexible as often other duties and special projects may be assigned. Documentation and reporting of job site and equipment conditions are a routine function of this position. This position is designated as “essential” and the applicant must be willing to work during emergencies and inclement weather. This position requires the candidate be able to conduct work primarily outdoors that involves moving, climbing, blending, and stooping for periods of time. Outdoor work may be exceedingly hot or cold for periods of time and in physically challenging terrain. The ideal candidate must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 25 pounds constantly to move objects able to lilt and carry up to 100 pounds. The candidate must have knowledge of maintenance of roads, grading, asphalt upkeep, stormwater infrastructure maintenance, cleaning ditches either mechanically or by hand, and an understanding of utilities present within the work environment.
Training:
MINIMUM TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

High School graduate or equivalent with 6-10 years of experience in the operations,
maintenance and supervision of heavy equipment or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid Class “A” SC CDL with Bus and HazMat endorsements. If required applicant will be offered 6 months after hire date to receive the endorsements. Possess working knowledge and understanding of computers and handheld electronic devices with an ability to read and follow Plans/Blue Prints and job layout(s) to include grade shooting to provide proper elevations.
