Position: Building Official
Grade: 139
Salary: $53,757 - $80,635
Job Function:
Under limited supervision, oversees, plans and directs the activities and operations of the Building Department, ensures compliance to international and related building codes, Flood Management Ordinance, ADA 504 Plan, related Hazard Mitigation Plan, and other building related ordinances.
Job Requirements:
Performs supervisory duties including instructing, assigning and reviewing work, planning, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, allocating personnel, acting on employee problems, selecting new employees with the approval of the Planning Director, and recommending transfers/promotions, discipline, termination and salary increases.

Exercises responsibility in the preparation and implementation of the departmental budget.

Supervises the activities of the department to ensure compliance with international building codes and related building codes, which includes plan reviews, permitting and inspection.

Interprets codes and ordinances for subordinate staff to ensure understanding and compliance.

Implements the Flood Management Ordinance and program.

Updates and, where relevant, implements the ADA section 504 plan.
Coordinates building inspector registration requirements by the State.

Enforces utilization of State and local licensed contractors.
Training:
Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or architecture with five years experience or any other equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess all State

required certifications and be a Certified



Floodplain Manager. Candidates who do not possess the State required certifications may be considered but must obtain such certifications within the time period required by the State. Candidate must have a valid South Carolina driver’s license
